Sat Nam

Greetings from New Mexico! I attended Sat Nam Fest West last month. It was a wonderful event. The community of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan™ students, teachers and musicians, that gathered at the event created a powerful and harmonious vibration. It was great fun and very inspiring. On the last day of the event, the children that attended had created a beautiful prayer flag and showed it to the gathering. It reminded me that children are our future and just how important is the role of the mother as first teacher and guide.

We are remembering a divine mother... Ma Jaya Sati Bhagvati, teacher, leader and a great friend of Yogi Bhajan. She passed away last month but the work of the Kashi Foundation and The River Fund continues. On June 18 1994 Yogi Bhajan said this about Ma Jaya. "I am very thankful to Ma. I have one association in this. She takes away the fear and the pain of the dying. They say she gives honor to the dying, to the destitutes, to the prostitutes, to painful people, depressed people, and unfortunate people. Ma Jaya started it voluntarily without any program, without any support and without anything. Well, that shows us that state of grace, where only self-knowledge will prevail. There shall be lot of pain also. And as nobly she is doing this I not only support it, I pray for it."

May is Teachers month. If you are thinking about becoming a teacher, please come and share in a fantastic experience with us. Come and recognize your most beautiful Self in New Mexico this summer. Sign up now for the Aquarian Teacher International Teacher Training Level One course in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. I really look forward to this course every summer. We Are KRI

Sat Nam,

May is here! Spring has begun and new lifecycles begin all around us. Here in Espanola it is now safe to plant, and this year I am planting my first garden and I am deeply enjoying watching new life spring up in my yard. The cycles of nature are wondrous to watch- one day it is Spring and the next day the temperature drops and the storm blows in one last snow.

As Yogis we acknowledge and honor the Mother as the First Teacher and understand that it takes a Sangat to raise a child. In Belo Horizonte, Brazil the Sangat has come together to support five students to attend Miri Piri Academy where they will be trained as Level One Instructors and will also complete 2 Level Two courses. Here is Guru Sangat Kaur’s article on the love of this Sangat for their future.

“Out of the piles of messages in my Mac, work related e-mails and beautiful things sent by different people around the globe, the phrase “it takes a sangat to raise a child” was what really caught my eye that late evening.

How true is that, I thought. Then, a stream of quick monologues went through my mind such as Oh, Guru Ram Das that is so true. It is happening here in Belo Horizonte right now with the 5 kids we are sending to MPA. If we do not join hands, resources and faith, we won’t be able to send them at all – It is also the case with the construction of our school here, if the sangat was not united, we wouldn’t be able to do a thing. Then, naturally, I went through the e-mail and realized it was from MPA fundraising team! The video really touched my heart and I found the idea of putting up such a nice material simple genius! And on top of that, the motivation was so perfect. If MPA offers the financial aid for so many children, it is obvious that they need to have that fund restored so that they can keep on helping more kids around the world.

From the Editor’s Desk

In this path we often say that the mother is the first teacher. My mother was a natural teacher, good at everything, I knew I’d never really live up to her. Still, she had very few requirements of me other than being happy and seeking my own truth. If she ever admonished me, it was with a reminder to find out for myself, don’t listen to her. So I became a seeker (and ultimately became a Sikh) and explored many paths. But when I found the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, I knew that I had found the truth I had been searching for.

In the same way, I was often admonished in my early Kundalini Yoga classes with these words, “Don’t believe me! Have your own experience.” It resonated and I have spent the past 13 years seeking my own experience and my own inner truth. These weren’t just the words of my teacher, but the words of her teacher and the words of her teacher, the Master, Yogi Bhajan. And although I never met him in person, the technology of Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, is alive in me because of him. Becoming a teacher is ultimately about listening to your own inner teacher, your own Guru Dev, that transparent light of truth that guides us through everything.

May Clove Recipe

Jaalaa Jeeraa

For the Month of May Only

Spring is often a time of cleansing and processing, which in turn makes one more vulnerable to colds and flu. Here is a reminder from Gurusahay Singh Khalsa, D.C., about a remedy for the month of May.

Take a handful of cloves and soak them in room temperature water overnight. First thing in the morning, when you brush your teeth, take 3-4 tablespoons of the clove water (not more than 5--don't overdo it).

“It will save you from a lot of viral diseases. The month of May breeds viruses. Your ears, nose, and throat will be all right. Symptoms will almost not appear. It you do it every year, you will never fall apart.” - Yogi Bhajan....
