‘Whatever positive you have, share it…’
Summer solstice is such a special time of year for me. Growing up in this community, summer solstice has always been a time of gathering with old friends, meeting new friends, and celebrating with my community.

The following is an excerpt from a lecture Yogi Bhajan gave on summer solstice day, 1992.

Today we have gathered here for one reason to celebrate summer solstice as usual, we are here from all walks of life, from many beliefs and with many, many vibrations. Some of you are logical, some of you are rational, some of you are irrational, some of you are committed, some of you are uncommitted, but all of us together have entered the Age of Aquarius.

A handful of you have come here by the will of God, a handful of you will listen by the grace of God, and a handful of you shall practice by the virtue of God. And today when the Sun is at a peak, is exalted, summer solstice has a message out, winter solstice has a message in. And in this in and out balance humanity lives. So today orders are whatever positive you have, share it. Whatever negative you have, eliminate it. And don't wait for my letter to come, I'll never write.

The excitement at KRI this time of year is palpable. Between the mounting Summer Solstice vibe and KRI’s exciting summer courses that draw dedicated students from around the world to Española each summer, it’s hopping!

KRI just started using Instagram… find us there Kundalini_Research_Institute! I’d like to invite you to participate in the KRI Instagram Teacher Feature by emailing a photo (selfies acceptable) of yourself in a favorite Kundalini Yoga posture. Email your name, where you teach and favorite posture along with the photo to: (Subject: Teacher Feature). We’re sharing daily quotes drawn from the “KRI Box o’ Quotes”, which is actually a real bonafide cardboard box full of quotes printed on large slips of paper that look like they came out of giant fortune cookies. Every morning when we draw a new quote we set the intention that it would touch those who see it that particular day. We’re really enjoying interacting with you on Instagram and hope to see you there!

We’re really excited about the new DVD box set coming out this Summer Solstice: Physcical Training (PT) with Yogi Bhajan. We had a really talented team helping to pull this together. The video has been cleaned up and color-corrected by Convivial Design Studio. The audio has been mastered by a very talented audio engineer, Sat Darshan Singh Khalsa. Each original PT video includes a new inset screen showing the correct posture and timing for each exercise, modeled by Swaran Kaur (Ashram Secretary at Hacienda de Guru Ram Das), whose keep-up ability was truly inspiring throughout filming of the kriyas. We selected five consecutive days of PT filmed in 1994 for this set in order to give you the feel of doing daily PT with Yogi Bhajan, and perhaps inspiring you to establish a weekly Kundalini Yoga PT routine! Exercise with purpose!

Recipe of the month


Pistachio Paranthas

This recipe is in both Foods for Health and Healing and Man to Man, A Journal of Discovery for the Conscious Man, both by Yogi Bhajan, PhD, and available on The Source, KRI’s online bookstore.

Foods for Health and Healing says this food is known as a natural remedy for arthritis (taken as a mono diet). It also indicates that pistachio paranthas can revitalize male sexual organs. For that purpose, a man should one day a week eat two paranthas and nothing else.

½ cup corn flour (not the same as ‘corn meal’)
½ cup garbanzo flour
½ cup bhajara flour (available in Indian or International stores; if not on hand, use whole wheat flour)
3 cups whole wheat flour

Mix the flours together with a little water until you have a dough consistency. You may want to use less of the garbanzo flour and more of the bhajara or whole wheat flour, as these latter two tend to make the dough stick together a little bit better.

1 lb. pistachio nuts (unsalted, shelled)
1 cup minced cauliflower
1 cup onion, chopped
2 tsp saffron
1 tsp red chiles
2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
¼ cup milk

To use the saffron, you must first take the saffron and soak it overnight in milk. In the morning, take all the above ingredients and blend them together in a food processor until you have a fine mixture.

The pistachio nuts are the main ingredient in this stuffing mixture; use a smaller amount of cauliflower than you do pistachio nuts. All of the other ingredients can be used in any amount as seasonings.

To prepare the parantha: Once you have the dough made and you have kneaded it for a while, place about a golf ball sized ball in your hand. On a floured surface, roll the dough out with a rolling pin until you have it flattened to about 6 inches in diameter. Next take about ½ of the stuffing mixture, place it in the middle of the flattened dough. Next bring the sides of the dough up, and pinch them together at the top, completely sealing the stuffing mixture inside. Now roll it out again into a flattened 6” diameter. In a chapati pan or frying pan, over a low-medium flame, place your stuffed parantha. Cook it on one side for about 10-15 minutes on this dry pan. After 10-15 minutes turn it over and then take a lot of ghee, and pour it on top of the parantha. It will go through the bread to the other side. Cook this side for about 5 minutes on the same low-medium flame. Take a spoon and keep pressing down on it, until it is done. It is very delicious. It can be eaten with yogurt. It is a very pure food.
