The Vernal Equinox has come and spring is springing in many parts of the globe. Spring is traditionally a season of new life and new beginnings, of warm enlivening sunlight after the cold dark winter, and, in some cultures, a season for giving your home a good thorough cleaning. Our living spaces inevitably reflect the people who live in them and call them “home”. Our moods and mental states often play out in the physical condition of home sweet home. Cleaning up your home is important, but it all starts with the root task of cleaning up your body-home; cleaning up the cobwebs, dust, and subconscious clutter from your mind and heart. KRI’s specials on The Source this month invite you to take time to revitalize yourself like the earth revitalizes itself each spring.

 A Note from Nirvair

Sat Nam. Greetings from New Mexico.

Spring has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere and all of its green energy of growth is becoming evident. This time of year gives us the opportunity to cleanse and rejuvenate. It is a time to leave the winter behind and step into a whole new cycle of growth in awareness and consciousness. What is the best way to celebrate this change of seasons? Consider Sadhana...! Here are a few words to the wise from Yogi Bhajan about that.

Now question is how fast. Some people say ‘Why we do Sadhana and why Kundalini Yoga?' I have two purposes only. First of all Kundalini Yoga will cut through all garbage, it's a fast, it's a time-saving device. You don't have to go through long distance routes to come to the same destination, you know. You don't have to fly from here to New York to San Francisco, you can take a direct route. Normally our achievement is Los Angeles to San Francisco via New York or Boston. That's what we do, that's how long-route life is. But shortcut is from Los Angeles to San Francisco forty-five minutes, period. That's how Kundalini Yoga works. I appreciate it, when I was myself a student. We can get it, we can get it quick, we can get into experience. Neither we have to write a book about it nor we have to say anything, we are, we are, that's it. That's one direct benefit. Number two, if you do Sadhana every day, it's very self-livening, it's very self-accelerating.

One thing you cannot do, you cannot do your own Sadhana without a commitment. You do not understand that. I am not saying that you don't want to do. You do want to do, but you cannot do. Not that you want to cheat or you want to avoid it or you want to be negative about it, because this is how the polarity works. If a person decides fanatically that I am going to do my Sadhana, doesn't matter what, then time and space cannot affect that person. If a person decides to cleanse himself everyday, then weaknesses shall not have any toll. There will be no memory lapse, there will be no mood nonsense, I mean there are million things...

I am really excited about KRI’s summer courses in Espanola this year, and the talented trainers and amazing students who will be with us. I want to personally invite you to consider attending one of these courses. There is nothing like studying Kundalini Yoga right here where Yogi Bhajan lived and taught for so many years. Join me with Guru Raj Kaur from Vancouver and Jivan Joti Kaur from Espanola for The 21 Stages of Meditation Second Journey. The Second Journey, “The Expressive Self”, creates a focused experience of Self-discovery. This course is a great way to reconfirm your personal commitment to your meditative practice and to journey deeper within your self to distill your Self. What an incredible experience to participate in numerous deep meditations in a group atmosphere—you may even be inspired to incorporate some of the amazing meditations from the course in your own Sadhana. And we’ve conveniently set the course dates from June 16 to June 19 so those of you who are coming to the area for 3HO Summer Solstice can reap the benefits of this course before heading up the Hill!

“When Rasa begins to flow, it is like divine rain. It is the sweet dew that condenses and drops into your mouth. From everywhere it comes to you, now. It is personal, powerful, and healing. Relax and be anointed.” Yogi Bhajan from “Rasa”, Stage Eight in The 21 Stages of Meditation.

KRI is inaugurating our new Book of the Month feature with The Ancient Art of Self Healing e-book in April. We’ll be sharing useful and interesting tips and tidbits from the book on our Facebook page and YouTube channel, so like the page and subscribe to the channel and stay tuned.

The Ancient Art of Self Healing is a compendium of Yogi Bhajan's teachings on food, herbs, health and Humanology. It has helpful guidance for everyone: tips for potency and vitality for men; techniques for vibrancy, health and healing for women; and direct teachings for parents and children regarding food, sleep, and even potty training!

Lastly, I want to give a general reminder to you about buying wholesale from KRI. Are you a teacher of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®? Do you own a yoga center? Our wholesale store is now open for qualified buyers. Find out more….

Kind regards and blessings,

3 cloves garlic, minced
Soy sauce or tamari
Ghee or vegetable oil

Q & A with the Master

June 15, 1996 Q & A with Yogi Bhajan

Student: Sir, is there a meditation that can be done to re-balance after a tornado?

YB: Oh, when that thing comes and takes you up in the air? That round thing? How many tornadoes come in your lifetime in your mind? (Laughter.) How do you balance that? If the perfection of mantra is Ashtang, that is: "Gobinday, mukanday, udhaaray, apaaray, hareeang, kareeang, nirnaamay, akaamay.” If this mantra is perfected, all elements can be controlled. And there's no stronger prayer than “Har, Haray, Haree, Whaahay Guroo,” six sounds. Either there are eight sounds or six sounds. Or you have a basic sound, “Ek Ong Kaar, Sat Naam.” That sound comes from unison sound.

I’ll tell you what. This is a true story. Somewhere a tornado hit. It was passing through the whole city, and it took upon itself to go through a certain home. And normally in that situation the house should have been totally eliminated. Everyone in the house got into the cellar. And it is a fact, that when the tornado hit, it drew away the earth, many, many feet. It took everything with it, but when it came to hit this particular house, the house collapsed over it. The people were right under it. Later on, the fire brigade came and dug them all out in one piece. Every house in a line with this one was gone, at some places a couple feet deep. And this house could have gone, too; they could have been sucked out of that cellar. But all the people in that house sat all together, with their hands together, and they chanted with one voice. They were protected because all forces must bow before the force of God, and that is mantra. That shield cannot be broken.

When a man or woman of consciousness shields himself or herself with a mantra, there's no power in God to penetrate through it, He can only stop and help. The angry force of nature, instead of destroying them, became a saving grace. They feel very lucky now. Because of disaster relief they were able to rebuild the house, and they have a nice new home. They had been thinking of tearing down their old house to rebuild it anyway. Nature did it for them.

There are many powers, which may strike you, like an ocean or a tsunami (tidal wave). There are many things in life that hit (surprise) you. Your friends hit you. Remember this: Enemies can’t hit you. Because an enemy is an enemy, you know he may try to hurt you. It's the friend that you never knew would hit you. It's nothing less than an earthquake. You can’t believe that person could betray you. And the next minute you come out of it. How? By meditative mantra. By your applied mantra.

What is a mantra? It’s a mental projection of positiveness into the negativity which is totally hurting you. Disease, calamities, all phenomena. And if nothing else works, there’s one line that always works. This is my line on which I have lived my 67 years:

That's all I know. My total knowledge is this. I don't know anything more than that and I don't believe anything more than this exists. But that's my personal thing. After studying, and reading, and knowing, and experiencing and whatever you call it, that's one line I have come to understand. And I am very grateful to God and to myself, that I have learned that line. I am grateful to Nanak that he said that line. I am very fortunate that I picked that line. It's my pleasure, my joy, my bliss. And after that line, I think nothing matters.
