Kundalini Research Institute's 2011 Honors

The Kundalini Research Institute is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2011 Outstanding Achievement Awards for their contributions to the legacy of The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan:  Karta Singh Khalsa (France) and Snatam Kaur Khalsa (USA)

Karta Singh Khalsa (France)

The Kundalini Research Institute honors Karta Singh with our 2011 Outstanding Service Award. Karta Singh is the Founding Director of the Amrit Nam Sarovar Yoga School (ANS) and is a Lead Trainer in the Aquarian Trainer Academy.

In the mid-seventies, Yoga Bhajan first crossed Karta’s path. Immediately, he recognized him as the teacher he had been looking for. Karta followed Yogi Bhajan in his vision to build a global community whose founding principle was the spirit, which created a common bond between all mankind. Karta made it his mission to help people transform and realize their full human potential. He started teacher training, which did not exist at the time. As a pioneer, he created programs in France, Belgium, England, Russia, Austria, and Switzerland. With the teacher training Karta reached out to as many people as possible.

Since Yogi Bhajan’s passing in October 2004, Karta began to ask himself: How far are we on the road towards an inclusive and enlightened society? How can we live in dharma (righteous living) in the West today? How can we facilitate a strong sense of living for each other? How can spirituality truly guide us in our lives? On his land in the French Alps he started building a space that could serve as a foundation for living the teachings. He considers Le Martinet a sign post that welcomes people looking for a spiritual home: people living for each other, beyond borders, beliefs and religions. It is a journey to becoming fully human and Karta Singh has been a guide to countless seeks on the path.

Snatam Kaur Khalsa (USA)

The Kundalini Research Institute honors Snatam Kaur with our 2011 Outstanding Service Award. Snatam represents what our global community is all about, reaching across borders and cultures to embrace our common purpose—peace and tranquility in the Aquarian Age. One of the most popular New Age artists of our time, selling over 50,000 albums a year, Snatam Kaur has become an international favorite with fans across the globe.

Snatam Kaur has an amazing ability to transform traditional chants into a contemporary sound that appeals to the modern ear yet awakens an ancient yearning in the soul. She brings the sacred chants of Kundalini Yoga and the Siri Guru Granth Sahib to audiences all around the world. Sacred Sounds Radio calls her music “spiritually uplifting and deeply soul cleansing.” Ram Dass, celebrated author of Be Here Now, says that “in Snatam’s voice...there is purity, clarity, and love.” One fan spoke for all when he said, “We come to Snatam’s concerts to experience the beautiful atmosphere her voice creates, to heal and grow.”

Snatam Kaur is an ambassador for 3HO (a United Nations affiliate), and is deeply committed to
supporting the U.N.’s Peace Resolution through her ongoing Celebrate Peace Tour. She brings music, Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® and meditation to the communities she visits, as well as to
