About The Kundalini Research Institute

Established on February 1, 1972 by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini Yoga, the Kundalini Research Institute is entrusted with The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan. KRI, a non-profit corporation, safeguards the purity, integrity, and accuracy of the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan by:

  • Developing 3 levels of International Yoga Teacher Certification

  • Preserving the teachings legacy for the future online Library of the Teachings

  • Awarding the KRI Seal of Approval to products that successfully meet the standards of KRI Review

  • Providing services and resources for Kundalini  Yoga students and teachers via online services and upgraded Yogi Bhajan Products

Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1968. Yogi Bhajan taught that, through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life.

Kundalini yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayam, mantra, music and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class.

Men of great knowledge actually found out about the chakras –their workings, their petals, their sounds, their infinity, their co-relationship, their powers.  They found that the life of a human is totally based on these chakras. This total science gave birth to Kundalini Yoga.

KRI Finance Report for 2009

The Kundalini Research Institute, entrusted with preserving and spreading The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan since 1971, fulfills that trust in three primary ways: The Aquarian Academy, which trains and certifies teachers and trainers all around the world; The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings, the living archive of Yogi Bhajan’s entire catalogue of teachings on Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, health and nutrition, humanology and more; and KRIs products and services, which provide resources for students, teachers and trainers all around the globe through our website, books, yoga manuals and DVDs.We are accomplishing these goals with very limited resources: 13 Full-Time Staff and 5 Seasonal Contractors, along with a handful of trusted outside vendors.

Like most other nonprofit organizations, we depend on you! Donations and grants provide the resources we need to move forward. As a business, we make every effort to have our products and events pay for themselves. But much of the work we do here at KRI has no such business model to depend on—the success of that work depends on you. Your donations make the work of The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings possible. We thank you for your support in 2009 and your ongoing support in 2010. With your generous support, our bottom line increased this year and we will put that money to good use in the Library of Teachings preservation project. We will continue to serve you by providing the resources and services you need to take these teachings out into the world and more deeply into your own lives.

Library of Teachings 2009 Donor Report

In 2009, The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings entered its second full year of fundraising and the work of the archive began in earnest. Because of your donations in 2009, we have been able to double the amount of video assets entering the archival process in 2010 from 50 to 100, each and every month. Beginning about a year ago, we began archiving, on average, 100 audio and 50 video assets per month; that is just over 900 audio assets and 450 video assets in 2009.  With more than 6000 total assets, we still have a long way to go toward a completed archive of the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan. But we’ve made great progress thanks to you!

We don’t use many traditional fund raising techniques; that is, we don’t inundate you with paper. Instead, we have focused our efforts via e-mail campaigns, a few phone calls, and online gifts. Because of our nontraditional fund raising efforts, we’ve been able to steward your gifts directly to where they are needed—the archive. Total expenses, and overhead related to the archives, amount to less than 15% of the overall archive budget.  So you can be assured that your donation, no matter how big or small, goes directly to the archival work.

Transparency is a virtue and a value of the Aquarian Age, so in an effort to let you know our progress and to have the work of the archive set the standard, we’ve included a summary of our 2009 budget and expenses related to The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings.

Thank you for your generosity in 2009—it made all the difference! We continue to need your support. Become a subscribing donor today—or let a friend know why you donate to The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings—keeping the legacy alive!
